Paris: Day 13

Day 13: Croissants, Conciergerie, and Fish Bowls

We started the day out with croissants, macaroons, and café from Pierre Hermés while sitting outside overlooking the fountain at Saint Sulpice. If you’re ever in Paris, do yourself a favor and stop here. Multiple times. We sat eating the macaroons trying to figure out a way to bring a whole suitcase of them home to share. Unfortunately, they only last four days, so you’re all on your own.

Spent the afternoon touring the Conciergerie. At first the palace of the royals, it later become a prison during the French Revolution. Mary Antoinette was held her before being taken to Place de la Concord to be executed on the guillotine .

Within the Conciergerie is the chapel Saint Chapelle. We made sure to go on a sunny day, as the chapel is lined with twelve huge stained glass windows depicting the stories of the first twelve books of the Bible. Next to the Madeline, this is my favorite church in Paris.

The rest of the day was spent strolling along the Seine.

A couple blocks from our apartment is a bar called the Prescription Drug Cocktail, which seems only natural that we stop for a drink. Unfortunately, it was extremely busy, so we decided to stop during the week (stay tuned to hear how it was!). Our consolation bar: a place just a few doors down from us that serves fishbowl drinks….in a bird cage. I think we ended up still winning.
