Paris: Day 16

Day 16: Hemingway, Hemingway, Hemingway

If you haven’t read The Paris Wife, you need to. So when Carly was looking for a book to read, it was one of my first suggestions. This obviously lead to a day to live like Hemingway, which basically meant going to different bars and drinking. It was such a great day, filled with plenty of drinks, the best hotdog I have ever had, and lots of laughter.

So here’s the route of our Hemingway day!

Polido: It was fitting that our first stop was two blocks away from our apartment. No drinks here as they were closing up for the afternoon. But obviously photos outside were necessary.

74 Cardinal Lemoine: The first Paris apartment of Ernest and Hadley Hemingway.

Closeries des Lilas: A favorite writing spot for Ernest and said to be the place where he wrote A Moveable Feast. We stopped for Sazerak. A strong start to Hemingway drinking. Apparently, there are plaques throughout the inside of places were Hemingway stood or sat; however, we didn’t find any. Still well worth the stop.

Café Pré aux Clercs: One of the first bars that Hemingway visited upon arriving to Paris and a spot he regularly frequented. We drank wine while FaceTiming Andrea so that it was almost like she was there.

Harry’s New York Bar: Yet another Hemingway favorite. We read about it both as a Hemingway spot as well as the birthplace of the Bloody Mary and Sidecar. We also heard that they were the best hotdogs in Paris. So hotdogs and Sidecars it was. Whoever wrote about them being the best was not lying. I will have dreams about these hotdogs for the rest of my life. Best I have ever had, without a doubt. So great, that we got one while we were there and then got some more to go before we left. The bartender informed us it was the first hotdogs he had ever packaged up to go.
